22nd Annual County Wide Thanksgiving Dinner

Thursday, November 24, 2011

It's November and many of us are making family plans for Thanksgiving. However, if you know you'll be alone for Thanksgiving or unable to prepare a traditional turkey meal, give us a call for a delivered meal. Or, plan to attend the dine-in dinner at the Eagles Lodge on North Third Street in Clinton from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m.

This county-wide effort is intended for anyone who wants a traditional Thanksgiving meal but cannot afford one or, cannot prepare one for themselves.
The traditional Turkey Dinner will consist of:
Turkey and Dressing
Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
Green Beans
Dinner Roll
Piece of Pie
and will be delivered to the home or served at the Eagles Lodge.

For the 22nd consecutive year, a county-wide Thanksgiving meal will be prepared and delivered or served in Henry County. Liz Cashell, David Albertson, Lisa Wallace, Teresa Phares and David Dubovich and the Clinton Senior Center are planning the annual event. Scott Brooks also volunteers his time to determine the routes for delivery and the Knights of Columbus carve the 50 turkeys for the event. An additional 200 local volunteers donate money, food and time to the holiday meal.

Lisa Wallace reports, "We plan to feed 800 this year which is about what we fed last year." Wallace urges you to mark your calendar to help on Thanksgiving. Area residents can help by baking a pie or buying and baking a turkey to deliver to the Clinton Senior Center on Wednesday, November 23.

The committee needs volunteers and donations for 130 pumpkin or apple pies, 20 drivers to deliver meals, 10 people to help with the steam table, four people to scrub pots and 50 volunteers to purchase and bake 14-16 pound turkeys.

If you are willing to donate food, money or your time, let us know today! Call the Henry County Library at 885-2612 to let us know what you can do to help.

The other need is to find all who need delivered meals. Consider your neighbors and your friends. Ask them if they need a meal and help them call in. "We don't want anyone who needs a traditional meal to go without on Thanksgiving," stresses Wallace.

If you need a traditional turkey dinner delivered to your home on Thanksgiving, call the Henry County Library at 885-2612 or, if you are out of town, call 1-866-CALLHCL. Deliveries will be made to any resident of Henry County. Please call by noon on Tuesday, November 22. David Albertson is coordinating the dine-in traditional Thanksgiving meal at the Eagles from 12:30-2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. No reservations are needed for the dine-in meal.
