Library Holds Mortgage Burning
Monday, April 4, 2005

The Henry County Library was "the" place to be April 4, 2005. From 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday evening, the Henry County Library hosted the popular "Business After Hours" event. Local business men and women gathered to visit, discuss and network their, business, social and philanthropic endeavors. Past and present trustees, elected officials and representatives of local businesses, were invited to share in a lavish array of delicious appetizers created by Cheryle Midgett owner/ operator of the Boss Cafe in Clinton. Special arrangements were made to bring in a unique addition to the menu, a glorious four-foot tall fountain of flowing chocolate from Liberty, Missouri.

Months of preparation went into this social gathering and would not have been possible without the assistance of Henry County Library trustees: Patricia Hendricks, Naomi Coleman, Joyce Trolinger and Carla Crump. Not only was it a wonderful opportunity to showcase the library and services provided to the public, it was also to be the scene of a very special event.

With a crowd nearing 150, Liz Cashell, Director of Library Services, greeted the crowd and introduced everyone to the current HCL Board of Trustees President, James Price. Mr. Price spoke briefly acknowledging both present and past board members.

The old board: Jim Price, Kelly Hendrich, Jean Cull, Roger Wombwell

The program commenced with Liz, reviewing the events which led to the building of the new facility and the invaluable assistance of Patricia Hendricks for her role in bringing this dream to fruition. Next Ms. Cashell announced to all that the library was now debt free and ten years ahead of the original payoff date. At this time, Trustee President, James Price, joined Mrs. Hendricks, as they proceeded to burn the mortgage. Director Cashell was heard to say "1.3 million dollars and 10 years, up in smoke!" It was a great evening!
