Food For Fines
November 1 - November 30, 2011
From November 1 thru 30, Henry County Library patrons are able to "pay" their overdue fines with cans of green beans, tuna or tomatoes. Any overdue item can be returned and the fines accrued may be removed with a donation of non-perishable food items. For over twenty years this amnesty period has offered library patrons an alternative way to clear their current overdue fines. Peanut butter, boxed pasta, fruit and beans are all nutritious and welcome items.
This promotion does not apply to Collection fees or previously returned materials. To make sure fines are removed from the correct patron record, donations and returned items will be accepted at the Circulation Desk.
All canned/dried foods collected are sent to the Samaritan Center for distribution to area families. As a reflection of the economic time supplies are running low and demand is high. Donations are desperately needed to help replenish the shelves.
For more information you can contact us at 660-885-2612 or toll free at 1-866-CALL HCL.
Henry County Library Receives Unique Photograph
The Henry County Library recently received a very unique photograph taken by former Clinton resident Mr. Bill Gilmore. The title: Sunset in Paris depicts a view of a sunset showing the Seine River and La Conciergerie, a 14th century prison. This wonderful work of photography was donated in memory of Mrs. Jeannette Calvird and can be seen proudly displayed in the library gallery.

Neighbors Helping Teachers
Calling all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and interested individuals. We have a project for you. It's easy, cheap and environmentally correct. The Henry County Library will be participating in the Neighbors Helping Teachers efforts by becoming a drop off point for supply donations. Many area teachers have experienced funding cuts to their budgets. These cuts impact the amount and variety of classroom supplies available for use by the students. Recycle those empty tissue/paper towel rolls, pill bottles, Pringles cans, string, beads, craft supplies, fabric remnants or envelopes of any size.
The Neighbors Helping Teachers group was formed to provide school educators of Henry and St. Clair Counties in Missouri with supplemental resources for their students and classrooms. Educators are welcome to "shop" for free, the 1st Saturday of every month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the old Samaritan Center, located on Center Street in Clinton. Faculty/Staff ID's are required, unless a district does not have them and then names will be checked against a list held by Neighbors Helping Teachers.
A full list of the supplies needed for the classrooms will be displayed at the Henry County Library main building and at the Lenora Blackmore Branch in Windsor. Donations will be accepted anytime during regular business hours.
Should you like to volunteer with the Neighbor Helping Teachers or have additional questions the contact number for the group is 660-885-1607 or Email to stacey.ordal@gmail.com.
