Call to Order: President Susan McBeth, Director Nevada Public Library, called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m. There were 54 in attendance. The December 2005 minutes were presented for approval. President McBeth asked for additions or corrections to the minutes. Annie Busch, Director Springfield-Greene County Library, moved that the minutes be approved, David Doennig, Director Stone County Public Library, seconded. The motion passed; all ayes, no nays, no abstentions.
Treasurer's Report: Jackie Thomas, Director Poplar Bluff Public Library, presented the treasurer's report. The balance in the MPLD account as of May 30, 2006 was $9,586.78. Jackie proposed that the bylaws be changed to require that MPLD dues be paid in June of each year rather than anytime throughout the year. Judy Beatty, Director Gentry County Library, moved to approve the treasurer's report and accept the treasurer's proposal to change the bylaws to require MPLD members to pay dues each June, Ray Hall, Director Mexico-Audrain County Library, seconded. The motion passed; all ayes, no nays, no abstentions.
Nominating Committee Report: Glenda Pate, Director Cedar County Library, reported from the Nominating Committee on a slate of officers. The slate of officers for the coming year are: President, Jacque Gage, Director Barton County Library; Vice-President, Cheryl Lang, Director Albany Carnegie Public Library; Secretary, Ann Sundermeyer, Director Hannibal Free Public Library; and Treasurer, Jackie Thomas, Director Poplar Bluff Public Library. Carl Sandstedt, Director St. Charles City-County Library, moved that the slate of officers be accepted by acclamation, Eva Dunn, Director Bollinger County Library, seconded. The motion passed; all ayes, no nays, no abstentions.
Morenet Appointment: President McBeth appointed Annie Busch, Director Springfield-Greene Library, and Karen Hicklin, Director Trails Regional Library, to represent MPLD on the Morenet Council with Glenda Hunt, Director Adair County Public Library as an alternate.
President McBeth asked the group to decide who should be allowed to attend the MPLD meetings. The group was asked to select one of three alternatives: (1) Those attending should be MPLD members only; (2) Anyone should be able to attend MPLD meetings; or (3) One representative from any library related organization should be able to attend if MPLD registration fees are paid, but only MPLD members should attend the business meeting. David Doennig, Director Stone County Library, moved that the third alternative be adopted, which stated that one representative from any library related organization be able to attend meetings if MPLD registration fees are paid, but only MPLD members should attend the business meetings, Liz Cashell, Director Henry County Library, seconded. The motion passes; all ayes, no nays, no abstentions.
President McBeth asked the group to decide who should be included on the MPLD listserv. A discussion ensued. Eva Dunn, Director Bollinger County Library, moved that all Missouri Public Library Directors and legal counsel be able to join the MPLD listserv, Betty Martin, Director Cape Girardeau Public Library, seconded. The motion passes; 32 ayes, 8 nays, 14 abstentions.
President McBeth shared with the group that legal counsel, Kent Brown, has requested that his compensation be increased from $1,500 per year to $2,500 per year. A discussion ensued. Annie Busch, Director Springfield-Greene County Library, moved that MPLD increase Kent Brown's compensation to $2,500 per year, Eva Dunn, Director Bollinger County Library, seconded. The motion passes; all ayes, no nays, no abstentions.
Announcements: Ray Hall, Director Mexico-Audrain County Library, volunteered to host the June 2007 MPLD meeting. Jackie Thomas, Director Poplar Bluff Public Library, volunteered to host the June 2008 MPLD meeting. Melissa Carr, Director Daniel Boone Regional Library, reported on plans for the upcoming Missouri Library Association Conference October 4-6 in Columbia. She encouraged everyone to attend. Sallie Hancock, Director Scenic Regional Library, encouraged everyone to attend the Public Library meeting at MLA this Fall. Judy Beatty, Director Gentry County Library, announced that there were spaces available for the preservation workshop to be held at her library if anyone was interested.
Liz Cashell, Director Henry County Library, moved to adjourn, Dana Williams, Director Camden County Library seconded. The motion passed; all ayes, no nays, no abstentions. The meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
