1870
- Census population for Henry County is 17,401, a 76% increase over the 1860 figure. The City of Clinton had a population of 640. Windsor had a population estimated at around 550. (Clinton was the only town for which official census figures were taken in 1870.)
- Test Oath abolished in Missouri. This enabled persons who had served in the Confederate Army to vote and run for office.
- January: Portion of the $250,000 of bonds for the 1869 Tebo & Neosho RR subscription are turned over to that company.
- February 10: Town of Calhoun is incorporated.
- March 9: State provides for normal schools at Warrensburg and Kirksville. This marks the beginnings of what is now Central Missouri State University, at Warrensburg.
- June 30: End of track on the Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad reaches Windsor.
- July 18: End of track on the Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad reaches Clinton.
- August 20: End of track on the Missouri Kansas & Texas Railroad reaches Montrose.
- August 23: Special excursion on the MK&T to celebrate the opening of the railroad to Clinton.
- August: County court subscribes $150,000 to the Clinton & Memphis Branch of the Tebo & Neosho Railroad Company and $50,000 to the Clinton & Kansas City Branch of the Tebo & Neosho Railroad Company.
- August: Remainder of the $250,000 of bonds for the 1869 Tebo & Neosho RR subscription are turned over to company, the railroad having been completed through the county.
- November 7: $150,000 of bonds turned over to the Committee of Construction of the Clinton & Memphis Branch of the Tebo & Neosho RR.

1871
- At the 1870-1871 session of the Missouri legislature, the city of Windsor promoted a bill to create a new county, to be named Meadow County, by taking pieces from Henry, Johnson, Pettis and Benton counties. The bill was actually reported favorably, whereupon Clinton (and the other three affected counties) set to work and proceeded to kill it. Windsor tried again in the 1872-1873 session, but the bill failed to even get out of committee this time.
- Montrose is laid out on lands owned by Joseph Patton and D. C. Cross, to the southeast of Germantown. Most of Germantown shorted moved over into the new town.
- Town of Lewis laid out, named for Howell Lewis, an early settler of the area and a nephew of George Washington. Often called Lewis Station, but the "Station" part was never officially part of the name.
- April: The county purchases 160 acres, in section 33 of Fields Creek Township and section 17 of Clinton Township, for a County Poor Farm. $7,200 was paid for the land.
- April: Town of Urich laid out, on the southeast corner of section 22 in Bogard Township.
- August 15: $50,000 of bonds turned over to the Committee of Construction of the Clinton & Kansas City Branch of the Tebo & Neosho RR.
- August 31: The Kansas City Memphis & Mobile Railroad Company takes over the Clinton & Kansas City and Clinton & Memphis branches of the Tebo & Neosho Railroad.

1872
- First store built in the town of Urich.
- September 14: Fire destroys several stores in Montrose.
- December 24: The Missouri Kansas & Texas RR is completed to Denison, Texas. Clinton and Henry County are now on the first rail route into Texas from the north or east.

- February 5: The Town of Windsor is incorporated.

1874
- By this time grading on the Kansas City, Memphis & Mobile Railroad had been completed from Kansas City through Westport and Belton to Harrisonville and from North Clinton south through Brownington and Lowry City to Osceola. Although the KCM&M did purchase at least one locomotive and several cars, it never bought any rails and never laid track. The equipment purchased was later sold and the money consumed paying salaries to officials.
- Invasion of grasshoppers.
- July 23: Town of Montrose is incorporated.

1875
- March 25: The "Big Fire" swept down Kansas Avenue in Montrose from 4th Street to the railroad tracks, destroying 11 businesses.
- April 11: Fire at Brownington destroys the store and post office.
- October 30: New constitution adopted for the state of Missouri.

- May 20: County court suspends payment of interest on the railroad bonds, both those issued to the Tebo & Neosho proper and those to the two branches.

- December 3: "Great Fire" in Calhoun destroys 3 businesses.
