1880
- Census population for Henry County is 23,906, a 37% increase over the 1870 figure. The City of Clinton had a population of 2,868 (a 348% increase). The population of Brownington was 251, of Calhoun 492, of Huntingdale 66, of La Due 140, of Leesville 70, of Lewis 154, of Montrose 495 and of Windsor 872.
- 115 schools in operation in Henry County, with 178 teachers.
- Post Office of Galbreath renamed Colesburg.

1881
- April 27: The Henry County Bank is organized in Clinton. It failed on December 4, 1896.

1882
- Compromise between the county and the holders of the county's railroad bonds reached, refunding most of the bonds at 75%.
- July 24: Montrose becomes a city of the 4th class.

1883
- July 29, 1883: Clinton Gas Coal & Coke Company organized to provide gas service to Clinton.
- August: Clinton Gas's plant, near 6th & Elm Streets, opens to service. The plant closed in 1930, replaced with a butane/air system based at the Missouri Public Service Company's power plant, replaced in turn with natural gas service in the 1950s.
- December: The Kansas City & Southern Railroad begins regular service from North Clinton to end of track near Brownington.

- Clinton Academy incorporated and authorized to grant degrees.
- March: Keith & Perry Coal Company buys land west of Brownington.
- November: George H. Nettleton buys some of the Keith & Perry land now forming Deepwater.
- December: The Kansas City & Southern Railroad extends regular service from North Clinton south to Lowry City in St. Clair County.

1885
- March 19: State Hospital No. 3 at Nevada established. Clinton had an opportunity to bid for the State Hospital, but chose not to.
- March 5: George & Julia Nettleton plat the town of Deepwater.
- May: The towns of Garland and Maurine are laid out on the Kansas City extension of the Kansas City & Southern RR.
- July 9: The town of Blairstown is laid out on the Kansas City extension of the Kansas City & Southern RR.
- July 27: The Kansas City Clinton & Springfield RR begins regular passenger service between Kansas City and Clinton.
- September 29: Baird College founded by Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Baird. The school building, a large brick structure, was located between 2nd and 3rd streets, south of Allen Street.
- September: The Kansas City & Southern RR is opened from North Clinton to East Lynne, opening a through route from Kansas City to North Osceola via Clinton.
- November 27: The Kansas City Clinton & Springfield RR begins regular passenger service between Clinton and Springfield, opening a through route from Kansas City to Springfield via Clinton.

1886
- February 3: Worley & Folchemer open a pottery plant in an old machine shop on 7th Street north of Oak. The Clinton Pottery plant would for a number of years be one of the major producers of stoneware in Missouri.
- June: The MK&T station at Clinton and the adjacent Clinton Ice House burn down.
- November: New tiling factory in Deepwater begins operation.
- November 20: Anheuser-Busch building is completed. (This is now the Henry County Museum's main building.)

1887
- April 7: Courthouse is comdemend and turned over to the wreckers.
- June: Henry County Bank building is completed in Clinton. (This is now the Delozier Building of the Henry County Museum.)
- June 24: The Brinkerhoff - Faris Trust & Savings Company opens at Clinton. It eventually fell victim to the Depression, closing in November, 1932.
- July 16: The Natural Gas and Development Company well on Judge Munson's property, southwest of Clinton, strikes artesian water at 325 feet.

1888
- "Chuffy" brick plant opened, east of Deepwater. Variously listed as Kansas City Vitrified Brick Co. and Kansas City Paving Brick & Tile Co., make bricks marked "Brownington".
- Capitol remodeled at cost of $220,000.
- W. S. Dickey Clay Manufacturing Company (of Kansas City) leases the clay products factory from Keith & Perry.
- A. H. Crandall opens the Industrial Iron Works on South Washington Street in Clinton.
- September: The Clinton Street Railway Company opens its horse car line from the High School Corner (3rd & Franklin) to the Artesian Well, via Franklin, Washington, Ohio, Orchard, Allen, and private right of way.
- December 10: The Kansas City & Southern RR completes its own tracks from East Lynne to Kansas City.

1889
- Australian ballot law made to apply to towns over 5,000.
- March 23: Boiler explosion at the grist mill atMt. Zion kills the proprietor, George Hillegas.
- April 8: The Kansas City & Southern RR ("The Blair Line") completes its spur to the depot on Green Street, in Clinton, and closes the old North Clinton depot.
