1940
- Amendement passed to set up non-=partisan court plan.
- Dr. Gus Wetzel opens a small hospital in the 2nd floor of the Harmon Building, on the east side of the Clinton Square.
- Grand opening of the remodeled McClane house. The Civic Club had rooms on the 1st floor, the library was on the 2nd floor, and the museum on the 3rd floor of the 3-story brick building.
- September: Clinton General Hospital opens its new 20-bed, 2 story and basement brick building on 3rd Street, between Franklin and Jefferson. This replaces the old facility in the H. P. Faris house on East Jefferson.

1941
- December 7: Japanese attack Pearl Harbor.
- December 8: U.S. formally enters World War II.
- December 27: Rubber rationing is started in the U.S.

1942
- February 10: The last civilian automobile is produced in the United States until after the war was over in 1946.
- April: Sugar rationing begun in the U.S.
- November: Coffee rationing is begun in the U.S.

1943
- March: A steam whistle provided by the Crowe Coal Company is installed at the Missouri Public Service power plant. It will be used to provide the "alert" and "all clear" for air raid warnings, and will also sound at Noon and 6 P.M. each day.
- March 28: OPA initiates rationing of meat, canned fish and canned shellfish, most natural and processed cheeses, and most edible fats and oils.
- Missouri Constitutional convention met September 21, 1943 - September 29, 1944.

1944
- Dr. Gus Wetzel buys the Community Clinic Hospital, which is renamed Wetzel Hospital.
- February 13: The Library and Museum at 2nd and Ohio in Clinton is destroyed by fire. The library was temporarily relocated back into the courthouse, then moved to the Avery-Livingston Building, at 101 East Jefferson Street.
- May: Meat rationing is ended in the U.S. for most cuts.
- June 6: D-Day. Allies begin landing troops on the French coast at Normandy.
- November 7: Harry S Truman elected Vice President of the United States.
- December: Meat rationing resumed on the U.S., but butter rationing is ended.

1945
- February 27: New State Constitution adopted.
- April 19: Harry S Truman becomes President of the U.S. following the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
- Septembert 2: World War II ends, with surrender signed on deck of U.S.S. Missouri.
- December: Tire rationing is ended.

1946
- January: New addition announced for Clinton in the former McClane pastures west of 3rd Street. The title Sun Rise Addition was selected as a contest to select a suitable name.
- February 10: A fire destroyed the Bush Hatchery on East Ohio, with loss between $200 and $500 thousand. Was considered the largest hatchery in the world under one roof.
- February 25: First National Bank of Clinton opens, at the southeast corner of the square.
- April 2: Henry County voters approve the formation of the Henry County Library, with 1056 voting yes and 856 no, and also vote a tax to support the library.
- July 11: Major fire on the south side of the Clinton Square destroys the old Bixman Opera House, then housing the Uptown Theater and the Kemper Meat Market.
- October: Bridge carrying Highway 52 over the MKT tracks on the west edge of Windsor is completed.
- December: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8820 is organized at Montrose.

1947
- Rotary Building built on West Jefferson Street in Clinton.
- April 2: Explosion at the Zenith Fireworks Plant near 8th & Jefferson kills 12 employees.
- June: Sugar rationing is ended in the U.S.
- October 30: Sears Roebuck & Co. store opens on south side of Clinton Square, on the site formerly occupied by the Bixman Opera House.

1948
- Addition built onto Clinton General Hospital.
- Hawkins Law for School Reorganization passed, beginning the process of consolidating the rural schools.
- First Henry County Fair is held, in Artesian Park.
- October: Clearfield Cheese Company begins operations at its plant at Main & Oak in Clinton. The plant is still in operation, after several changes in ownership, now being operated by Schreiber Foods.
- November 2: Harry S Truman is elected President of the United States.

1949
- "Missouri waltz" becomes official state song.
- July 21: Dickey plant at Deepwater closed permanently.
- November 1: Election held on Reorganization of the rural schools in Henry County. Districts R-3 (Shawnee), R-4 (Norris), R-5 (Blairstown), R-6 (Urich), R-8 (Calhoun), R-9 (Leesville), R-12 (Walker) and R-13 (Davis) are approved. R-1 (Windsor), R-2 (Merritt), R-7 (land), R-10 (Greenridge), R-11 (Clinton), R-14 (Montrose), R-15 (Bear Creek), and R-16 (Deepwater) were voted down.
