1970
- Eastgate Shopping Center opens in Clinton, at the northwestern corner of the East Junction of Highways 7, 13, 18 abnd 52. Walmart (Store #33) and Gerbes are the initial tenants, with Kreisler Drug Company soon joining them.
- Optimist Park in Clinton is formally dedicated.

1971
- January: Golden Valley Memorial Hospital opens, replacing both Clinton General Hospital and the Wetzel Hospital.
- June 1: Rival Manufacturing dedicates its 120,000 square foot factory.

1972
- March: Wetzel Clinic opens a new office building on North 2nd Street, north of the Harmon-Gaines (now Town Creek) Shopping center, and the old clinic at Ohio & Main is closed.

1973
- Clinton Medical Building (now the St. Lukes Medical Center) is opened on Gaines Drive, east of Golden Valley Memorial Hospital.

1974
- Henry County Historical Society purchases the former Anheuser Busch building on West Franklin Street, for an expanded museum.
- Westwood Nursing Home is opened, just west of the Wetzel Clinic, on Gaines Drive.
- Freedom School closes. This was the last remaining one room school in Henry County.

1975
- January 7: St. Clair County C-4 (Lowry City) School District and Henry County R-15 (Deepwater) School District vote to consolidate, as the St. Clair County R-3 School District, which was shortly renamed the Lakeland R-3 District.
- February: Lakeland School District purchases 35 acres of land just south of the Henry - St. Clair county line and just east of Highway 13.

1976
- Lakeland High School is opened on the new site purchased in 1975, roughly midway between Deepowater and Lowry City.
- June 29: City of Deepwater accepts Green Meadows Estates addition.
- July 4: The Henry County Museum, located in the former Anheuser-Busch building, is dedicated.
- December 14: Deepwaster Senior Citizen Housing opens.

1978
- May 27: The new swimming pool in Artesian Park at Clinton is opened.
- September: City of Clinton moves into its new City Hall, formerly the Wetzel Clinic building, at Ohio & Main.

1979
- October 19: Gates are closed at Truman Dam and the lake begins to fill to its normal level.
- December 9: The old Clinton MKT train depot is moved from its original location at the south end of Washington Street, south of Ohio, to the southeast corner of Clinton square. Here it was remodeled to serve as headquarters for the Clinton Chamber of Commerce.
