- April 2: County votes in favor of tax increase for the Henry County Library, in order to build a new library building and provide increased services.

- April 20: The Henry County Library opens its new building at 123 East Green Street.

- Lakeland School District passes a $1.4 million bond issue to build a new elementary school at the high school site, midway between Deepwater and Lowry City.
- August: Addition to the Shawnee Mound R-3 School completed.

1997
- August: The new Rotary Car Dumper and Loop Track at the Montrose Power Plant of Kansas City Power & Light is placed in operation. The new dumper can unload a train in 5 hours, against 32 hours for the old bottom dump equipment.

1998
- May 18: Official dedication of the 4-laning of Highway 7 from the Martin Curve west of Clinton east through the North Junction with Highway 13 to the East Junction of Highways 7, 13, 18 and 52.

1999
- January: New Wal-Mart Super Center opens
- February: Benson Convention Center dedicated.
- February: Clinton Community Center dedicated.
- February: Grading work begun on 4-laning highway 13 from Coal Creek to the St. Clair County Line
- March: Grading work begun on 4-laning Highway 13 from St. Clair County Line to south of Lowry City
- May: New Clinton Water Treatment plant at 1101 Coal Creek Road is completed. The old plant at 911 Artesian is closed. It opened in 1951.
- June: 4-laning of Highway 7 completed from the Martin Curve west of Clinton to near Urich. This completes the 4-laning of Highway 7 the entire distance from Harrisonville to Clinton.
- September: The Katy Trail from Sedalia to Clinton is dedicated, completing the 240 mile long trail from St. Charles to Clinton on the old right of way of the Missouri Kansas & Texas Railway.
