1949 Proposed School Consolidation
In the November 1, 1949 election 8 districts approved the consolidation plan,
Districts R-3, R-4, R-5, R-6, R-8, R-9, R-12, and R-13,
and 8 districts voted against consolidation,
Districts R-1, R-2, R-7, R-10, R-11, R-14, R-15, and R-16.
The Districts which approved the consolidation are marked in bold.

Of the districts approved:
- District R-3 is the present Shawnee R-3 School District
- District R-4 eventually became part of the Clinton C-124 School District.
- Districts R-5 and R-6 eventually became part of the Sherwood (Cass County) R-8 School District.
- District R-8 is the present Calhoun R-8 School District, except that the Roseland School eventually was included in the Windsor R-1 system.
- District R-9 is the present Leesville R-9 School District.
- Districts R-12 and R-13 form the present Davis R-12 School District
At a later date:
- The present Windsor R-1 School District was formed including the schools of the proposed R-1 and R-2 districts, plus the Roseland School.
- The present Montrose R-14 School District was formed including the schools of the proposed R-14 and R-15 districts.
- The present Clinton C-124 School District includes the R-4 District, plus all the schools that were in the proposed R-7, R-10, and R-11 districts plus the New Harmony and Lima Schools from the proposed R-16 district.
- The present Benton County R-9 School District includes the Finey School from the proposed R-16 district.
- The present Lakeland R-3 School District includes the schools of the proposed District R-16 minus the Lima, New Harmony, and Finey Schools.
