Based on a Road Map of Henry County prepared at the Missouri School of Mines, Rolla, Mo., from State Highway Department and U. S Geologic Survey Maps and School Report Data.
Note 1: If a name was given it is listed, along with the identifying district number (taken from the 1949 Plan of Reorganization of Rural Schools). Otherwise the Survey section in which the school was located is used as the name. All the schools did actually have names, but the road map doesn't list all of them. Some of the names were determined using the U. S. Geologic Survey's Geographic Names Information Service (GNIS). Setting 'Missouri' as State, 'Henry' as county, and 'school' as feature type and clicking on the Send Query box will return a list of all schools known to GNIS in Henry County, with their latitude and longitude. Comparison of the latitude/longitude figures with latitude and longitude of unidentified schools, derived from U. S. Geologic Survey Topographic maps, identified most of the schools for which no name was given on the map. Names identified in this fasion are marked with a * following the name.

The present road numbering system was adopted over 40 years after most of the rural schools closed. Some of the school buildings remain as residences or unoccupied buildings, but most are long gone, so the addresses given represent some guessworkas to the number.
Addresses given inside square brackets, i.e. [550 NE 300], represent locations where the road no longer exists as a public road.
Some represent areas mined where the road itself physically no longer exists.
Others are on roads that have since been closed to public use, or are on Corps of Engineers lands around Truman Lake. They are not maintained and not shown on county road maps, but in many cases the roadway still exists. It may be so overgrown as to be impassable except on foot.
